Time, talking heads, and furniture ads
Why is my attitude towards the news these days like an ad for a local furniture store?

"Absolutely NO interest till Two Thousand Twelve!"

There's one like that here in Portland, too. They run TV ads all the time about their amazing financing deals -- and almost never say anything at all about the furniture they are supposedly selling. I've always thought it a little weird, but it must work for them, because they've been doing it for at least fifteen years.

The year the Mayan calender supposedly ends so bunches of people wrote books about that and then someone said,

oh no, here is how we keep the world going
and so now people are writing books about that.
